But Melik Demirel at Pennsylvania State University and his team say about that genetically engineered E. coli can be used to make it in huge quantities, they say one importance of the proteins could be used for coating existing synthetic clothing fibers to produce a very hard wearing fabric that would not shed microplastics. It could even lead to self-healing materials.
